Seven Sisters: Caretaking the Climate, Our Sacred Obligation
In support of Seven Sisters: Se’Si’Le
The Seven Sisters - indigenous women who are grassroots organizers, cultural artists, knowledge-keepers, and environmental leaders — shared teachings and perspectives on our relationship with Mother Earth, the challenges we face, and the responsibility we share for the future, in the beauty of the New York Botanical Gardens.
They held a powerful ceremonial gathering of music, spoken word, storytelling, ancestral wisdom, and the gift of t'əq'əq'ə—“foresight.” The ceremony was followed by a guided walking tour of the Thain Family Forest at the New York Botanical Gardens - the largest uncut expanse of New York’s original wooded landscape. The Forest remains a magnificent reminder of the beauty and resilience of nature in the face of complex human-caused disturbances.
