A one on one conversation with Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi
At a time when the future feels fragile and the world around us is in flux, Environmental Utopia: A World for Our Children calls us to imagine and build something better. Featuring keynote speaker Nancy Pelosi, this live symposium brings together leaders from government, film, academia, and climate advocacy to explore how storytelling, culture, and policy shape the environmental footprint we leave behind. Our children will inherit the consequences of today’s choices. Together, we ask: What kind of future are we brave enough to imagine?
This invite-only symposium will bring together scientists, policy experts, cultural influencers, and industry leaders to explore the urgent challenges of climate resilience, the Rights of Nature, and human-wildlife cohabitation. Against the backdrop of recent wildfires in California, devastating hurricanes, and rising global temperatures, this symposium will bridge science, policy, and storytelling to ignite action and inspire change.
A Conversation With Nancy Pelosi

Join us for a conversation where Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi will discuss her vision of an environmental utopia to create a better world for our children and counter dystopian climate narratives.
Nancy Pelosi served as the 52nd Speaker of the House of Representatives, having made history in 2007 when she was elected the first woman to serve as Speaker. Pelosi made history again in January 2019 when she regained the Speakership – the first person to do so in more than six decades. She led House Democrats for two decades, and she was inducted into the National Women’s Hall of Fame in 2013. For her lifetime of distinguished public service, Pelosi received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2024.
READ MOREPelosi has represented San Francisco in Congress for 38 years. Currently serving as Speaker Emerita and Representative for California’s 11th Congressional District, she is fighting For The People to lower costs, grow paychecks and create jobs.
Pelosi is the architect of generation-defining legislation, including the Affordable Care Act and the American Rescue Plan. As Speaker, she also led the Congress in passing historic laws to lower health care costs, rebuild infrastructure, support small businesses and deliver assistance for students and veterans.
A champion on climate, Pelosi delivered landmark investments to accelerate America’s transition to a clean energy future, while preserving the environment and advancing environmental justice. As Speaker, Pelosi made the climate crisis the flagship issue of her Speakership. In 2022, Speaker Pelosi delivered House passage of the Inflation Reduction Act – which contained the biggest, boldest climate action in history. This law included many House-crafted provisions to accelerate America’s transition to a clean energy future: putting the nation on a path to slash carbon pollution by 40 percent by 2030, while creating millions of new jobs and advancing environmental justice.
During Pelosi’s first Speakership, she enacted comprehensive energy legislation in 2007 that raised vehicle fuel efficiency standards for the first time in three decades and made a game-changing commitment to America’s homegrown biofuels. In 2009, she led passage of the American Clean Energy and Security Act to create clean energy jobs, combat the climate crisis and transition America to a clean energy economy.
A leader on conservation and the environment at home and abroad, Pelosi authored legislation to create the Presidio Trust and transform San Francisco’s former military post into an urban national park. She also secured passage of the “Pelosi Amendment” in 1989, now a global tool used to assess the potential environmental impacts of development. A defender of Democracy, she led the House efforts to protect voting rights and create the bipartisan Select Committee to Investigate January 6th. For decades, Pelosi has also been a powerful voice for human rights around the world.
Pelosi comes from a strong family tradition of public service. Married to Paul Pelosi, she is a proud mother of five and grandmother of ten.
