Spring Into Action
Join thousands of Sierra Club members and volunteers as we work to protect our lands, water, and wildlife this spring!
Background
Spring is a time of rebirth for Mother Nature. The sun shines more. Robins appear. Bears emerge from their dens. Leaves and flowers begin popping out. The desert blooms. We are reminded of the sacredness of nature, and how necessary it is for our health and happiness. And truly, for our very survival as a species.
With more than 40% of ecosystems in the United States on the verge of collapse, we must act swiftly to stave off the destruction of vital habitat, to ensure fresh drinking water, to preserve the forests whose air we breathe.
More than 60% of Earth’s biodiversity has been lost within our lifetimes, and more still will be lost to climate change, which threatens to overtake development as the leading cause of extinction and harmful health impacts.
This is why we are fighting to protect and preserve 30% of our lands, water, and wildlife by 2030. We must conserve nature for future generations. So they too can enjoy the birds singing on a new Spring day.
Opportunities for Change
This Spring, there are two federal comment periods open that are a great opportunity for us to be heard by the Biden administration. The US Forest Service is asking the public to weigh in on creating a federal rule to protect mature and old-growth forests while the Bureau of Land Management is gathering public input on a rule to shape the future of public land management. This is the perfect moment to show the Biden administration why our forests should be used as nature-based climate solutions and to make sure that they are preserving critical habitats and biodiversity before it is too late.
