The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), the nation’s largest public power provider, is at a crossroads. Instead of leading the charge toward a clean energy future, TVA is proposing the largest expansion of methane gas infrastructure of any utility in the country this decade. We Can’t Afford to Wait
The future of our energy system must be public, fossil fuel-free, and affordable for all. TVA was once a pioneer in renewable energy — now, it has the chance to reclaim that leadership. TVA is working on a 25-year energy plan, formally called an Integrated Resource Plan (IRP). This plan will determine our region’s energy landscape for decades to come.
Clean Energy is the Smart Choice
Investing in clean energy isn’t just about reducing pollution — it’s about creating economic opportunity. Solar energy, battery storage, and energy efficiency projects generate well-paying, local jobs in installation, maintenance, and construction. This transition supports working families, lowers utility bills for households and small businesses, and builds resilient communities. Transitioning to clean, safe, renewable energy is a commonsense way to save money and support a healthy, thriving community.
Our Voices Make a Difference
Over the past year, the Sierra Club and thousands of Tennesseans have actively participated in TVA’s long-term energy planning process. We’ve submitted over a thousand public comments, packed TVA IRP meetings, and demanded a plan that slashes climate pollution and prioritizes clean energy solutions. Our efforts have already made an impact: TVA has acknowledged that it can invest in more clean energy, phase out fossil fuels, and create a more flexible electric grid — all without raising costs for customers.
