TVA Makes a 20-Year Bet on Batteries

TVA just made a 20-year bet on batteries — and it matters for Tennessee's energy future.

TVA and Plus Power announced a deal to add 200 megawatts of utility-scale battery storage to the Tennessee Valley.  This is a big deal! This is TVA committing — in a binding, two-decade contract — to the idea that batteries are now a core part of grid reliability.

The project is part of TVA's broader push to add 6,200 megawatts of new generation across the region. Battery storage paired with clean energy is how you make that future reliable and affordable. The question we'll keep asking: where are the renewables that TVA said were cheaper, cleaner and faster?
