New Member Walk at Shelby Bottoms

New Member Outing

By Sinclaire Sparkman-Carr

Three new Tennessee Sierra Club members met up with chapter chair Pat Cupples on Tuesday, August 11, for a foray into the preserved floodplain next to the Cumberland River in downtown Nashville. The sounds of the city faded into natural beauty as Kiki, Copper, Pat, and Sinclaire stepped onto the trail at Shelby Bottoms, just in time to see the golden “superbloom” of tickseed sunflowers, thistle, and ironweed that brightens the 1300 acres of the city park. The walk gave us a chance to break the ice, build rapport, and discover what we’re passionate about. These walks are for new members as well as long-time participants, giving everyone a chance to connect in a natural space.
