Defenders Fund Chair Susan Johnston
In a grassroots organization the roles we play are varied. Organizing volunteers is crucial, and so is organizing the funding that keeps those programs running. Susan Johnston has specialized in the latter.
If you’ve opened a Defenders letter in the last few years, you’ve heard from Susan. She picked up the campaign from her friend Sherry Loller and built on it, growing it year after year to a record amount raised last session. Her work is a big reason Sierra Club Tennessee has a real presence at the State Capitol.
This is Susan’s last year leading the campaign, and we want to send her off with a bang. The best thank you we can give her is another record-setting year.
What is the Defenders Fund? It’s what powers our state lobbying and legislative program. Defenders support puts us at the Capitol testifying in committee and working with Republican and Democratic legislators to protect Tennessee’s air, water and land. That work matters more than ever as the legislature is considering moves to strip communities of their say over data centers, landfills and nuclear waste.
This year we have incredible news to share. A few of our longtime supporters are offering up to a $10,000 match for new members of our Defenders team. New to the Defenders? Your first gift will be matched dollar for dollar. Already a Defender? Help Susan go out on top by increasing your gift this year.
Thank you Susan. Your contribution has been incredible.
