Become a citizen scientist. Volunteer to collect data at two beaches: Main/Seabright Beaches in Santa Cruz, and Linda Mar in Pacifica.

Researchers from Stanford University are studying water quality at California beaches and they are recruiting volunteers to collect data at two beaches: Main/Seabright Beaches in Santa Cruz, and Linda Mar in Pacifica.

Project goal: to understand how runoff entering the ocean from coastal communities moves and mixes along the shoreline. This is important because it will help us improve how we manage runoff and coastal water quality, protect public health, and keep the environment healthy.

But in order to gather the data we need to answer our questions, we need help! We are excited to be working with citizen scientists to collect the necessary water samples—we couldn't do it without you!

When: Participants volunteer to collect water samples once per week this winter-spring (February - May, 2019) at one of the above beaches.
