Tell SCC to Involve Chesapeake Residents in VNG Compressor Station Project with an Open Hearing

The VNG Chesapeake Compressor Station is another fossil fuel energy project that will move fracked gas through communities across Virginia. Several Environmental Justice communities surround the proposed VNG Chesapeake Compressor Station project. The haze visible in the picture above depicts the air quality in the surrounding area, what you cannot see or smell from the picture is the thick gas smell from VNG’s Gidley Metering Station adjacent to the proposed VNG Chesapeake Compressor Station project. At no other time in our current history has protecting our air, water, and natural resources have been so important to maintain the equity, quality, and integrity of our eco-system for survival.

In Hampton Roads, three significant fracked gas pipeline projects—the Virginia Reliability Project (VRP), the VNG Chesapeake Compressor Station Project, and the Southside Connector Pipeline—pass through neighborhoods within a 1 to 3-mile radius of their termination points near the energy industry corridor on Military Highway. Neighborhoods are already burdened with the City’s highest prevalence rates for asthma, diabetes, and other chronic diseases. Chesapeake is ranked 5th in the state for air pollution. Further fossil fuel buildout will only intensify this standing.

Tell the SCC: To Conduct a hearing so communities’ voices can be heard on development impacting their health. The opportunity exists, and the time is now to comment your community’s opposition to this fossil fuel project directly to the SCC

Environmental justice is the concept that no one population or community of people should disproportionately bear the burden of environmental impact risks associated with the development, implementation, and enforcement of environmental laws, regulations, and policies derived from the buildout of various energy or transportation infrastructures. To accomplish this the meaningful involvement of all people impacted is required at each stage of development.

Implore the SCC to Conduct Due Diligence – Ensure the Citizens of Virginia that No Application for a Dangerous Fracked Gas Pipeline in Communities is Approved Without Their Input!
