Richmond, VA — Sierra Club Virginia Chapter congratulates Governor-elect Abigail Spanberger, Lt. Governor-elect Ghazala Hashmi, and Attorney General-elect Jay Jones on their victories in yesterday’s statewide elections. The Sierra Club proudly supported their candidacies based on their strong commitment to climate action, environmental protection, clean energy, and a sustainable future for all Virginians.
Throughout the campaign, all three candidates demonstrated the necessary leadership on issues that matter most to Virginia families: advancing renewable and affordable energy, safeguarding our climate, and ensuring that environmental justice is at the heart of state policy.
“We are thrilled that our endorsed candidates had such successful election nights”, said Connor Kish, Director of the Sierra Club Virginia Chapter. “We also offer our congratulations to Speaker of the House Don Scott, Majority Leader Charniele Herring, Caucus Chair Kathy Tran, and Campaigns Chair Dan Helmer on victories that expanded a pro-environmental majority in the House of Delegates. A new administration and an expanded environmental majority represents an opportunity to double-down on our commitment to protect the planet and lower costs for Virginia families. With a clean energy future, we can and will do both. We can’t wait to get to work.”
The Sierra Club Virginia Chapter will continue to work alongside local communities, legislators, and the new administration to ensure Virginia remains a leader in the transition to 100% clean energy, while protecting public health and the state’s natural treasures.
