Our hearts are with our communities across the state facing yet another devastating wildfire season. As of this morning, fifteen wildfires have burned more than 250,000 acres across Washington in what Public Lands Commissioner Upthegrove has described as an "extraordinary" fire season.
With more than 65,000 people displaced by the Spokane Complex fires and over 1,000 more by the Kaiser Canyon Fire on the Colville Indian Reservation, we know many of you are looking for ways to support those impacted. The following organizations offer a variety of ways to support fire recovery efforts.
Supplies for firefighters in Spokane
Drop off items at Spokane Fire Station 16, 5225 N. Assembly St., Spokane.
Suggested donations: socks, deodorant, chapstick, eye drops, electrolyte drinks or mix to put in water bottles, protein + granola bars, beef jerky, trail mix, protein shakes, baby wipes, and sunscreen.
Support the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation
Donate to the Cedar Fund Wildfire Recovery Campaign or drop off items to the Methow Valley Interpretive Center at 210 5th Ave., Twisp.
Most needed: camping gear (tents, canopies, sleeping pads), outdoor kitchen gear (coolers, pots + pans, propane), lanterns, pet food + supplies, livestock feed, air purifiers, storage containers.
H.O.M.E. Starts Here Fund
The wildfire relief effort launched by the City of Spokane, accepting monetary donations to provide assistance and connect those affected with critical resources as they begin the recovery process.
Foster with SpokAnimal
As families who have lost their homes search for temporary housing and begin the long process of rebuilding, they may not be able to bring their beloved pets with them. By fostering, you can help shelters make room for more pets in need by providing a safe, temporary home.
Donate to Second Harvest Inland Northwest
Drop off nonperishable food and personal care items to 1234 E. Front Ave. in Spokane, Monday through Friday between 8:00am and 4:30pm.
Suggested donations: canned or dried beans, shelf-stable milks, oats, pasta, rice, water-packed canned meats, and nut butters.
Project Beauty Share
Drop off or mail new, unopened supplies to 2718 E. Sprague Ave., Spokane, WA 99202. Open Monday through Thursday from 9:00am - 3:00pm.
Most needed items: shampoo, conditioner, toothbrushes, toothpaste, feminine hygiene products, soap, body wash, razors, lotion, lip balm, deodorant, hairbrushes, and combs.
We are profoundly grateful to the firefighters, emergency personnel, volunteers, and neighbors whose dedication, bravery, and compassion are helping protect lives, care for displaced families, and rebuild our communities.
Please take care of yourself and one another.
