Dead and Dying Salmon Smolts
Edmonds/Woodway High School students in the Students Saving Salmon club found dead and dying coho salmon smolts while collecting water samples in Edmonds' Shellabarger Creek this Fall. Testing is needed to confirm that the salmon were killed by the tire chemical 6PPDQ, known to be highly toxic to salmon. If the chemical is confirmed to be the cause, the discovery emphasizes the need for better filtration of water reaching streams from roadways. |
