Flawed Development Approval Process

How would you like a massive 60 foot high retaining wall in your backyard? That's what our neighbors in Regatta Estates near Picnic Point are facing, even though a terraced and landscaped retainer with 200 trees had been planned and approved. Once again Snohomish County Planning and Development Services has ignored their own approval process, giving in to developer pressure at the expense of the environment and the neighborhood.
If you think this is bad practice, tell County Executive Dave Sommers Dave.Somers@co.snohomish.wa.us
and his Chief of Staff Josh Dugan Joshua.Dugan@snoco.org.
Sound Transit Wants your Opinion by December 10
Sound Transit is committed to providing affordable, carbon-free transportation. The expanding Link Light Rail is coming to south Snohomish County soon. They want your advice on two design decisions:
  1. Preferred transit oriented development near the new Lynnwood City Center Station. Take the SURVEY
  2. Help determine where Light Rail stations should be added between the Lynnwood City Center Station and the Everett Station. Make a COMMENT

Speak up About Hazardous Chemicals

You are probably using products every day that contain chemicals hazardous to human health or the environment. The Washington State Department of Ecology is seeking public input to determine which potentially hazardous chemicals it should regulate in consumer products. (Why not all??) The comment period ends mid January.

Working Together to Save Urban Trees

Responding to the climate crisis, the League of Women Voters of Snohomish County is working with the state Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and Forterra to protect and enhance tree canopy. This requires a careful look at how we build for a growing population. DNR will reach out to the Association of Washington Cities as soon as new grant money is available for the project. If you want to be involved, contact info@lwvsnoho.org.

Meadowdale Estuary Restoration

Check out Meadowdale Beach Park in Lynnwood! A huge renovation -- removing 128 feet of railroad embankment and installing a 5-span railroad bridge to allow fish passage and beach access with ADA accessibility -- will restore the original 1.3 acre estuary. This will provide essential rearing habitat for salmon and trout. The park will close intermittently to allow for the work, scheduled for completion Fall 2022. Meadowdale Beach Estuary Project
