Call to action: Tell your senator to OPPOSE SJ0002SJ0002 passed through the Senate Agriculture Committee last week by a 4-1 vote. This bill calls for the transfer of all federal lands back to the state of Wyoming on the basis of “state sovereignty.” Despite many public comments and concern for the potential costs of the bill, the committee voted to send the bill back to the Senate floor for consideration.
This bill would: - Open former federal lands to be sold or leased by private entities- with no guardrails to prevent the sale of public land
- Effectively sever access to public lands that make up nearly 50% of Wyoming!
- Puts the responsibility of managing public lands entirely on Wyoming; this could cost the state hundreds of millions of dollars that we simply don’t have.
Use this tool to find your senator, then give them a call or send an email urging them to reject this resolution. |

Grizzly ESA protections under fire (again)The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service had scheduled four meetings to discuss its proposal for managing grizzly bears in the Lower 48 states as a single distinct population segment under the Endangered Species Act. The Biden Administration proposed this rule in early January. However, the agency recently canceled these public meetings to allow the Trump administration to review and modify the proposal. We think the revision would prevent efforts to connect isolated bear populations and permit ranchers to kill bears.
The grizzly bear is an incredibly slow-reproducing animal, and unnecessary hunting and removal of individual adult bears would undo decades of recovery work in a shockingly short period. These incredible beings are worth the effort we have put into restoring them to where they belong, and they inspire the continued responsibility to protect our environment.
With a new administration hostile to wildlife and public lands, prioritizing holding our lawmakers accountable for ethical, science-based wildlife management is now more critical than ever.
Oppose delisting of grizzlies from the Endangered Species List.

I hope to see you on the trail soon!
