Stewardship Program

Stewardship Program

Through the Stewardship program, we hope to directly improve water quality and connect individuals to their waterways.

In just the last year, Sierra Club Ohio Chapter has exceeded our goals and provided 3,600 hours of stewardship service to restoring Ohio’s waterways.  Over the past 4 years, Sierra Club Ohio has engaged thousands of volunteers at hundreds of events, resulting in over 11,000 hours dedicated to restoring streams and rivers.   Volunteers have become stewards by taking ownership of Ohio’s public waterways–transforming trashed, neglected and inaccessible spaces into clean, safe, and vibrant areas.

Over the next two years, we plan to double the amount of volunteer hours we coordinate, increase the number of locations where we hold service events, and better our tracking methods to showcase our volunteers’ successes.

We will work to empower volunteers to “adopt” waterway locations, encourage ownership of neglected public spaces, and provide individuals the opportunity to become long-term stewards of specific sites.
