Sierra Club to Host Presentation on NYSDOT Route 363 Gateway Project Archaeological Survey

 

Environmental Specialist Kyle Somerville to give talk as part of 

Susquehanna Group’s monthly meeting

 

BROOME COUNTY, NY — On Tuesday, February 17th at 7pm, Kyle Somerville will give an overview of the archaeological survey conducted for the New York State Department of Transportation’s (NYSDOT) proposed Route 363 Gateway Project in the City of Binghamton. In his talk, Kyle will discuss the project area’s history, the regulatory framework guiding the survey, some of the features and artifacts that were found, and how those findings help us understand the area’s pre-contact and historic past.

 

Kyle Somerville is an Environmental Specialist and the Cultural Resource Coordinator at NYSDOT Region 9 in Binghamton. He earned a PhD in Anthropology from the University at Buffalo in 2014. Before joining NYSDOT, he worked in archaeological consulting on various projects in western and central New York State.

 

On the third Tuesday of each month the Sierra Club Susquehanna Group hosts their general membership meeting that is free and open to the public. Meetings are held in person and via Zoom. The meeting begins with a brief update on club activities and moves into a guest presentation on various topics of environmental interest.
