Changes proposed by the Trump administration would pave the way for even more harmful and toxic activities in sensitive waters and wetlands across the United States.

Washington, DC - Today, the Department of Transportation's Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration ended its comment period following an Advanced Notice of Proposed Rulemaking on safety of methane gas exports, known as LNG. The current safeguards are meant to protect workers and communities from dangerous and volatile LNG infrastructure, but those standards have not kept pace with the growth of the industry.

Washington, DC - Today, the Supreme Court of the United States overturned a D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals decision to require further analysis before permitting a railroad line in Utah that would carry billions of gallons of oil because the Surface Transportation Board failed to analyze and disclose the pollution impacts of refining all that oil in Gulf Coast communities in Louisiana. The original suit was brought by environmental and community groups, including Sierra Club. Washington, DC — Late last week, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission gave the controversial Venture Global permission to proceed with construction of its CP2 LNG export facility, despite Former FERC Chairman Phillips raising concerns about the facility’s emissions last year — which are equivalent to more than 42 million gas-powered cars or 46 coal-fired power plants.

Washington, DC - Today, the Trump administration released their response to the public comments on the Department of Energy’s LNG exports study that was finalized in December 2024. The study underpins the Department of Energy’s public interest determination for methane gas export applications. Energy Secretary Chris Wright says the agency will now begin to issue final orders for new and pending applications, despite the studies finding that LNG exports will displace renewables, raise energy prices, and contribute to climate disasters.
