November 7, 2024: Sierra Club is helping lead a coalition of advocates in petitioning the Illinois Pollution Control Board to adopt clean state-level car and truck standards. In an early legal win, the Board rejected motions to dismiss the petition filed by industry groups, who claimed that the Board lacked authority to adopt the standards under state law. In siding with Sierra Club attorneys' legal arguments, the Board's order showed that state-level policy remains a strong lever for advancing clean transportation and guarding against potential federal rollbacks. Our coalition's experts and supporters will present testimony and public comment in support of the proposal at a hearing before the Board on December 2 and 3.
