St. Augustine City Commission

Barbara Blonder for St. Augustine City Commissioner

In 2020, after thorough interviews, we determined that Barbara Blonder would be the person who would be most in line with our environmental priorities. In the past three years, she has proven our determination to be correct. For example, Blonder proposed a land acquisition program for the city that was approved unanimously at an initial funding twice the amount originally proposed.

Commissioner Blonder recently co-led a Sierra Club outing at the GTM Research Reserve to speak about gopher tortoises and educate the group about the Reserve. SCNEF is planning for Blonder to give a presentation and discussion on Resiliency Programs currently being developed in St. Augustine to deal with flooding issues, followed by a walk around the town, including the Lake Maria Sanchez area which often floods and endangers local homes.

Commissioner Blonder continues her work as a professor at Flagler College and developed a degree program in Coastal Environmental Sciences. She has provided an entry into the world of environmental protection and advocacy for many of her students.

Her goals for her next term include: a City-Wide Sustainability Initiative, Composting, Net Zero Emissions, continuation and potential expansion of the Conservation/Resilience Land Acquisition Program, addressing the Urban Heat Island Effect, and addressing Environmental Justice issues.

We look forward to continuing our cooperative relationship with Commissioner Blonder, and we know that we can always rely on her to protect our environment to the best of her ability.
