Event Planner

Plan and conduct Sierra Club of NE Florida social events. For example, in February we had a social event at the Ink Factory Brewery in Jacksonville Beach where our members could gather and socialize and learn more about current Sierra Club of NE Florida activities. We recognized volunteers for their efforts and we hosted one of our endorsed candidates for City Council.

We would like to do more events like these, on a quarterly or even monthly basis in different parts of our region. Estimated time requirement for this position is 2-3 hours per month, or more depending on the number of social events.

Information Booth Leader

Run Sierra Club information tables for public events. Some of our past events have included Right Whale Festival, 7 Creeks Fest, and Earth Day events in Jacksonville and in St. Augustine.

The Booth Leader will coordinate the Sierra Club information table at events such as these and also research and be the contact for other such events where we want a presence. We have a list of volunteers who have helped on past events, so the position would involve staffing the booth with these volunteers and continuing to recruit new volunteers.

There are materials used in our information booths - a collapsible 10 X 10' canopy tent, an 8' table, a tablecloth with logo, a milk carton on wheels with information and small displays, a trifold display and several posters. The information booth leader will be responsible for storing these materials between events and coordinating the delivery of the materials to events.

We are currently exhibiting at four major events per year, plus several smaller events. These tend to be 4- to 6-hour single day events, plus an hour or less setup and take-down. The leader will be responsible for submitting the exhibitor application for each event and be the contact for events between the event management and with the Sierra Club of NE Florida Executive Committee. Expect to spend 6-8 hours a month during the winter months when the events occur.

Outing Leader

We are always looking for more outing leaders, particularly from younger age groups (25-45) and communities of color. We train you!

Outing leaders take people outside to explore and enjoy our natural environment in a structured fashion that is safe and enjoyable. Outings can be hikes, paddling trips, bike rides and other activities exploring the outdoors. We also do clean-ups and other service projects.

Outing leaders need to be Sierra Club members, at least 18 years old, trained in CPR/First Aid and have skills appropriate to the activity - hiking, paddling, etc. Many outing leaders do one or more outings a month, while some lead outings less frequently. Each outing would require about 6-8 hours to organize and lead.

Promotional Merchandise Coordinator

Develop and manage our local NE Florida Sierra Club "swag" and "merch". This position would select products to use for free and paid promotional materials for our Group - T-shirts, hats, tote bags, etc., and would coordinate the storage, distribution and sales of the products.

The position would coordinate finances with the Group Treasurer and would ensure that products conform to Sierra Club marketing guidelines (logos, messaging etc). Estimated time requirement is 1-2 hours per month.

Member Awards Manager

Solicit nominations and selection of members to receive annual awards. Chapter (State) award nominations are confirmed by the Executive Committee and then sent on to the Chapter. Our local awards are submitted to the Executive Committee for final approval. The awards manager will need to solicit nominations from the membership through email and social media promotion.

The position will need to purchase the local awards plaques and also be the contact for any Chapter awards which end up being granted to our Group by the state Chapter. The awards manager will also present the awards at an annual in-person event for members and supporters. This position will require 10-15 hours per year.

Youth Organization Liaison

Identify and liaise with youth groups, from schools to homeschool groups, to Scouts, to church groups and other youth organizations to provide Sierra Club educational and recreational activities.

This position will research opportunities for the Outings Program and for the Programs Committee and be the liaison between those groups and the services of the Sierra Club. Sierra Club leaders in these areas will comply with Sierra Club regulations for training, certification and background checks. The Youth Organization Liaison will administer the training and certification of leaders in the various services provided by the Club.

The Liaison will be responsible for promoting our services, identifying opportunities and coordinating scheduling of the services with partner organizations. The time requirement is open-ended depending how active the liaison is researching and connecting with these opportunities. 2-3 hours a month is the estimated minimum requirement.

Sierra Club has a nationwide program called Inspiring Connections Outdoors(ICO) which provides youth outings. This ICO program contains increased logistical, financial and organizational requirements. The Liaison position could be the leader in developing a full-fledged ICO program in NE Florida, but that is not a requirement of the position, initially.
