Daniel Blackman Named Executive Committee Chair of the Sierra Club Georgia Chapter

ATLANTA — Daniel Blackman has been named Executive Committee Chair of the Sierra Club Georgia Chapter.

Daniel Blackman

Blackman, a political leader and environmental justice advocate, will fill the remainder of former chair Jeff Schoenberg’s term on the executive committee, which expires at the end of 2021. Blackman’s appointment was unanimously approved by the Sierra Club Georgia Chapter’s Executive Committee during its March meeting.

Daniel Blackman is an alumnus of Clark Atlanta University, served as the Senior Vice President for Environmental Affairs and Sustainability at Capital Fortitude Business Advisors, and recently ran for a seat on the Georgia Public Service Commission, falling short in Georgia’s historic runoff election this past January. He has been a guest lecturer at colleges and universities across the U.S. and has served as an advisor to the Congressional Black Caucus on environmental justice issues and on the board of the ACLU of Georgia.

“I am honored to serve as Executive Committee Chair of the Sierra Club Georgia Chapter,” said Blackman. “My commitment to this position is rooted in our opportunity to mitigate the impact climate change has had on Georgia’s economy. It is time to reassess the social cost of carbon and encourage statewide climate policies that benefit all Georgians in the long run. We must also recommit ourselves to environmental justice and intergenerational equity, if we truly believe in leaving our children a better planet than they inherited.”

In addition to appointing Blackman as chair, the Sierra Club Georgia Chapter Executive Committee also appointed Jumana Master as vice chair for administration and Marie Neff as secretary during its March meeting.

“We’re excited to welcome Daniel Blackman as the Chair of our Executive Committee,” said Linda McBurney, a member of the Georgia Chapter’s Executive Committee. “His leadership in the areas of environmental justice and equity, utility regulation, and the global impact of the climate crisis as well as his advocacy work with frontline communities will help the Georgia Chapter to expand its environmental justice work and to add new voices and perspectives in both its leadership and members.”
