Why we are concerned about airbows

Hunting with airbows puts hikers at risk

Legislators in the Iowa Senate are considering a bill - SF138 - that would allow airbows to be used in hunting deer during any season when any firearm  is allowed.

After careful consideration, the Iowa Chapter is opposed to this.  Our members like to be outdoors throughout the year.  When they hear shots being fired during hunting season, they know that there are hunters using the area.  They can then make decisions about staying in the area or not.  However, airbows are much more quiet.  That potentially could put others using a natural area at risk.

The airbow is a recent innovation, where an air canister propels an arrow.  Thirteen states allow hunting with airbows; Missouri is the only state close to Iowa.
