British statesman, jurist, author, member of Parliament, and ambassador to the United States.
In earlier life he was a notable mountain-climber, ascending Mount Ararat in 1876. From 1899-1901 he was president of the British Alpine Club.
It took several years for Bryce and Muir to meet, despite the attempts by both to do so. While Bryce was ambassador, he finally met Muir at a dinner in the San Francisco Bay Area.
