- Friends of John Muir's Birthplace (formerly Dunbar's John Muir Association)
This is the new name (effective April 21, 2007) for Dunbar's John Muir Association (DJMA). The organization was formed in 1994 with the aim of promoting the life and work of John Muir in Dunbar and beyond. The Association successfully campaigned for the development of a centre celebrating Muir's vision and influence on world conservation and is a member of the John Muir Birthplace Trust. John Muir's Birthplace opened in 2003 at 126 High Street Dunbar and since then has welcomed more than 40,000 visitors from all over the world.
Friends of John Muir's Birthplace now plan to move on to the next stage by supporting the work of the Birthplace through events, activities and fundraising. Friends also aim to highlight and debate some of the environmental challenges facing us today, particularly, climate change, pollution, deforestation and resource depletion.
