Painting of John Muir

by Robert Shetterly. (2003) The painting is part of Shetterly's series on Americans Who Tell the Truth.

The text in the background is John Muir's quote:

The battle we have fought, and are still fighting for the forests is a part of the eternal conflict between right and wrong, and we cannot expect to see the end of it. ... So we must count on watching and striving for these trees, and should always be glad to find anything so surely good and noble to strive for."

Portrait of John Muir

Portrait of John Muir

by C.J. Ellison

She writes: "I created this piece last April, 2022, to celebrate the birthday of the Father of the National Parks, Sierra Club founder, and lover of all the rocks, trees, & everything in between. John Muir - The wild man of the Sierras - has always been one of my personal heroes. He always spoke of nature and our responsibility to it in a way that resonated far after he left the earth he so loved. And it left me with the idea that if you're true to who you are and persevere, you might just make a difference." You may purchase this portrait from the inprnt.com website.

C.J. (Chandler) Ellison is an artist and illustrator who previously had her work, the animated short film "Muir" (2015).
