Massachusetts Sierra Club welcomes Deb Pasternak as State Director

BOSTON --  Massachusetts Sierra Club, the local state chapter of Sierra Club, the most influential grassroots environmental advocacy in the country, welcomes Deb Pasternak as permanent Massachusetts Chapter Director. Deb enters this role as a lifelong environmentalist. She worked in the photovoltaics industry, and studied marine ecology and fisheries management while attending Amherst College. In addition, she spent 15 years as a nationally touring singer-songwriter while organizing electoral campaigns in her hometown of Jamaica Plain, MA. Deb also spent 10 years in the wind industry working with developers through the processes of siting, permitting, securing financing, interconnection with the grid, construction and commissioning, and exploring US manufacturing for the machines.

Deb began volunteering in various roles with the Massachusetts Sierra Club in 2017, serving on the Chapter Energy Committee and giving Activist Trainings across the state. She soon joined the Executive Committee of the Massachusetts Chapter and in 2018 was elected Chair. Upon the resignation of Chapter Director Emily Norton, Deb took over as Interim Director and assumed the role of Chapter Director in the start of 2019.

Executive Committee Chair Ben Pignatelli said:

“Deb’s leadership will help guide our state’s progress in reducing pollution, conserving our natural places, transitioning to a just renewable energy economy, and building resilience in the face of climate change. The 23,000 Sierra Club members of the Massachusetts Chapter and our over 130,000 supporters are fortunate to have Deb leading our efforts to support environmental improvement in the Commonwealth.”

Of her new role, Chapter Director Deb Pasternak said:

“I am thrilled to take on the role of Chapter Director of the Massachusetts Sierra Club.  Residents across the Bay State are demanding protections for our air, lands, waters, wildlife, and communities.  It is an honor to work with our engaged volunteers to continue building a movement to ensure our just transition to a clean energy economy, providing: improved public health and safety, regional economic investment, local family-sustaining jobs, and climate change mitigation and resilience.”
