BOSTON - The Massachusetts Sierra Club (MASC) today announced its endorsement of Michelle Wu for re-election as Mayor of Boston. This endorsement comes as a result of Mayor Wu's demonstrated commitment to address the urgency of the climate crisis through policies such as Net-Zero Zoning Policy, Large Building Green Energy Retrofits, Solarize Eastie, & many others.

Celia Doremus, MASC Political Committee chair, said, “The Massachusetts Sierra Club is thrilled to endorse Mayor Michelle Wu for reelection. We applaud her dedication to protecting the health of all Boston communities and to investing in the environment and climate resiliency.  She understands the link between public health, environmental equity, transportation, and energy policy, and in her first term has made amazing progress bringing the city together to tackle issues critical to our well-being. She is truly a Mayor we are proud to have and continue to have in office.”

“Boston Mayor Michelle Wu is a dedicated community leader whom I’ve worked alongside for over eight years in Boston and in state climate policy,” said Vick Mohanka, Sierra Club director. “From her work on fare-free transit, rent control, & fossil fuel divestment, to immigration, healthcare, and education, she is a true trailblazer and model for progressive leadership. Under Mayor Wu, we’ve used Boston as an example to cities around the country and world, and we are excited to continue the push for a Boston Green New Deal with her team and our 1,200+ dues-paying members in the City.”

"Mayor Wu is one of the nations leading climate mayors.” said Angie Torres, a Boston resident and MASC political committee member. “From implementing fare free buses and electrifying our fleet of school buses, to launching programs that are helping affordable housing decarbonize - she has a proven track record of delivering on climate action measures that provide tangible economic and health benefits in our residents’ daily lives. She understands the urgency and the moral imperative to meet the climate crisis head on."

MASC Executive Committee Member, Evan McKay, added, “Working-class people contribute the least to carbon emissions, but bear the brunt of the climate catastrophe. Mayor Wu understands that climate justice means standing with families struggling to pay energy bills, seniors and disabled residents facing life-threatening heat waves, and children suffering from asthma due to pollution and traffic. That’s why billionaires and private jet owners are trying to buy this race and stop her re-election - because she’s not working for them, she is working for us.”
