Tell Michigan Lawmakers: Prioritize Environmental Protection and Infrastructure in Michigan's Budget

Earlier this year, Governor Whitmer laid out her 2023-2024 budget proposal, which reflects the needs and priorities of the people of Michigan to grow our economy and prepare our state for the future. Her budget commits billions to invest in workforce training and development in the clean energy and transportation sectors, cleaning up legacy contamination, addressing the climate crisis, expanding outdoor access, upgrading our water infrastructure and protecting Michigan’s children from lead and other toxic chemicals.

Included in the governor’s proposed budget are following:

  • $1.65 billion for climate and clean energy
  • $1.12 billion for clean water
  • $340.11 million for health and justice
  • $120.63 million for land and wildlife protection.

These investments will not only help clean up our environment and protect public health but also spur job creation in Michigan.

We are at the perfect inflection point to build a stronger, more prosperous, and equitable state as we take on Michigan's great challenges. With federal dollars and a state surplus, this moment provides an opportunity for the state to advance clean energy jobs, resiliency and a sustainable economy that benefits all Michiganders by creating jobs and securing workers' rights and livelihoods. Now is the time to be bold in charting a path to a genuinely healthier and more equitable future for all Michigan residents.
