Help us install a rain garden in Detroit!
  • Volunteer with us to help plant a rain garden in Detroit! Rain Gardens are a crucial aspect of stormwater management and Great Lakes protection. Come learn more about the process and be part of bringing one to life! No experience needed! There are two more opportunities to get involved before we close out our 2026 planting season:
Old Town Fall Cleanup Day on Saturday
  • Sierra Club volunteers are heading back to the old neighborhood for the October 17, from 9 AM to noon. Fall is here, and it’s time to give Old Town a little extra love!
  • Volunteers will tackle seasonal projects throughout the district, including picking up litter, tidying public spaces, cleaning landscaping, and preparing Old Town for the colder months ahead.
  • No special skills are needed—just come ready to help! Whether you can stay for the entire morning or lend a hand for an hour, every volunteer makes a difference.
  • Old Town Fall Cleanup Day

  • Grab some comfortable clothes, bring your community spirit, and help Old Town thrive! Register here
Pollinator Garden Stewardship: Stop doomscrolling and step into the garden with us. 
  • We are catching up on garden projects we postponed during the extreme heat and wildfire smoke. We need volunteers to help with:
    • Invasive species mitigation and removal
    • Preparing beds for fall planting and transplants
    • Creating artistic, educational signage about the projects and plants
    • Making milkweed & native plant seed balls for late fall and early spring dispersal
    • Building bird/butterfly/bat houses & pollinator hotels

Bi-Weekly Data Center Organizing Call
  • Are you eager to do something about data centers? Join the bi-weekly organizing calls to help us strengthen and grow our organizing efforts on data centers in Michigan. Hear policy updates from Lansing and together we will plan organizing opportunities. Learn with and from other organizers working locally for statewide solutions. Click here to register. 
Host a Data Center Postcard Party! 

  • Bring your friends together. Write postcards. Help protect Michigan! Hyper-scale data center proposals are popping up fast across Michigan. We need a moratorium now while we work on strong safeguards to protect our natural resources and residents from skyrocketing utility bills. But this won't happen until we start organizing more on statewide solutions now. That's why we're launching a summer of action on data centers starting with post card parties. But we need your help to make this happen!

Volunteer Leaders Hub

The Volunteer Leader Hub is for current volunteer leaders only (elected, appointed, issue leads) and contains resources such as group/chapter governance requirements, campaign toolkits, issue based FAQs, and other organizing materials. 

Volunteer access to these materials varies based on a volunteer's assigned leadership role in the organization. Volunteers will need to request access to this hub by contacting the Volunteer Engagement Coordinator at volunteer@michigan.sierraclub.org

Free Training Opportunities!

 

Comment Workshop "Waters of the United States":   10/07/2026 & 10/08/2026 at 8 p.m. Eastern Time

At the heart of the Clean Water Act fight is “Waters of the United States,” the term that determines which waters are protected under the federal Clean Water Act. EPA’s new rule language essentially REPEALS the Clean Water Act and goes far beyond what the latest Supreme Court’s Sackett decision ever attended. 94% of wetlands and roughly 79% of streams in the continental United States could be at risk of losing federal protection. In multiple arid Western states that number is ~90%. The proposal could exclude many streams simply because they don’t flow year-round, even though these waters help keep our rivers and drinking water clean, reduce flooding, and support fish and wildlife. We have a short window to speak up and tell the EPA: a stream doesn’t stop being important just because it doesn’t flow every day. Tell the EPA and Army Corps that our streams and wetlands matter!
