Taking a page out of President Trump’s and Elon Musk’s slash and burn approach, Michigan House Republicans have passed a 2025-26 reckless budget that completely eliminates funding for essential state departments, including Health and Human Services, the Department of Natural Resources and the Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy. And just like Trump and Musk, this was done without transparency, debate or public input, shutting out the voices of advocates and citizens.
This irresponsible move jeopardizes Michigan’s ability to function, prioritizing corporate polluters over public health and economic stability. With the ongoing negative impacts Michiganders are experiencing from radical federal government funding cuts and firings, now is the time for state-level solutions, not ridiculous political games that make Michigan less safe and push us toward a government shutdown.
If this budget moves forward, state parks will close, toxic sites will remain unremediated and critical clean water, environmental and assistance programs will lose funding. We need to invest in Michigan’s future, creating jobs, protecting our natural resources, and ensuring a healthier future for all.
Take action now. Contact your lawmakers and tell them to reject this dangerous budget and to work together for the people of Michigan to support a real budget. Our communities, health and environment depend on it.
