Southeast Michigan Sierra Club activists were busy throughout April’s Earth Month. Members of SEMG’s Climate Team were among the lead organizers of the fifth annual Oakland County Earth Day Climate March, Rally and Fair in Royal Oak on April 18th. And the Team was part of events from downtown Detroit to Cranbrook, celebrating Earth Day, protesting pollution and educating people on what they can do to protect the planet and our communities.

At Cranbrook’s 3-day Spring Into Science event at the start of the month, SEMG showed off its new Environmental Jeopardy game, created by Molly Moening. It was a hit with kids and adults alike, with fun questions on climate change and pollinators and sweet prizes. The game became a regular part of SEMG tables throughout the month.

The march, rally and fair at Royal Oak’s Farmers Market included more than 70 environmental and conservation groups and green businesses, with tables that covered many environmental issues, actions people could take, gardening and tree information and green products and services.

The SEMG also had tables during April at the Detroit Zoo’s Greenfest, the data center protest at Roosevelt Park in Detroit, a film showing about militarism and climate change at the Swords Into Plowshares Center in Detroit, the Civic Resources Fair put on by the Farmington/Farmington Hills Democratic Club and West Bloomfield’s Earth Day Celebration.
