OPPD's North Omaha coal plants is not the only plant that pollutes our air and water. There are three coal plant on the Missouri River operated by MidAmerican, a Berkshire Hathaway entity. Over the years the Iowa Environmental Council, the Iowa Sierra Club and the Nebraska Sierra Club and other environmental organizations have rallied during the Berkshire Hathaway shareholders meeting to try to encourage MidAmerican to stop polluting our air and water.
At last year’s (2023) Berkshire Hathaway shareholder meeting, an Iowa high school student called out their executives for refusing to transition away from expensive, dangerous coal. Click here to see the 2023 video.
