FERC Moves to Endanger Communities by Expediting Approval for Fracked Gas Exports

Washington, DC -- This morning, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) Chairman Kevin McIntyre announced plans to speed federal approvals for proposed liquefied natural gas (LNG) export terminals.

In response, Sierra Club Beyond Dirty Fuels Campaign Director Kelly Martin released the following statement:

“Fracked gas export terminals deserve more scrutiny, not less, and today’s announcement is yet another step in exactly the wrong direction by FERC. When agencies cut corners on critical environmental reviews of fossil fuel projects just to please the industry, it’s the public that pays the price. The only people who will benefit from more gas exports are fossil fuel industry CEOs, while Americans are left with higher energy costs and increased air and water pollution caused by fracking. America should be a leader in the global movement towards clean, renewable energy, not polluting our communities at home so we can export more dirty fuels abroad.”
