Today, Ohio community and environmental groups filed a preliminary injunction to stop the leasing of Ohio state parks and other public lands to the oil and gas industry. On April 7, 2023, Ohio HB 507 will go into effect requiring the leasing of state parks for fracking, redefining methane gas as “green energy,” and a list of unrelated agricultural provisions.

Harrisburg, PA - Today, the Sierra Club and Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) filed a petition for a declaratory order urging the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to maintain oversight over the Fortress liquefied natural gas (LNG) export project. The project includes a gas liquefaction facility in Wyalusing, PA and an LNG export facility in Gibbstown, NJ.

Today, the Pennsylvania Environmental Quality Board voted to move forward petitions filed by the Sierra Club, Clean Air Council, Earthworks, Mountain Watershed Association, PennFuture, and Protect Penn-Trafford that would work to adopt better bonding for conventional and unconventional wells in the Commonwealth by a 16 to 3 vote. This is a critical step in fixing the broken system of funding oil and gas well cleanup in the Commonwealth and protecting residents and taxpayers from the dangers of abandoned wells.
