WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Sierra Club has launched an aggressive digital ad campaign in leading news outlets across five congressional districts. The ads call out a series of Congressional Republicans who recently voted repeatedly against climate action and clean air. The ad campaign targets flagship publications in each of the four states and five Congressional districts represented by these members, including the Los Angeles Times, The Modesto Bee, The Portland Press Herald, The Reno Gazette Journal, and NJ.com.
Rep’s Jeff Denham (CA-10); Steve Knight (CA-25); Tom MacArthur (NJ-3); Bruce Poliquin (ME-2); and Mark Amodei (NV-2) all voted to block the implementation of the EPA’s methane rule, which is vital to reducing toxic air & climate pollution by diminishing methane pollution from the oil and gas sector. These Congressmen also all voted in favor of a resolution to block climate action which stated than any form of price on carbon would be unacceptable.
Additionally, Denham, Knight, MacArthur and Poliquin all voted to eliminate the “social cost of carbon,” which helps the government account for the benefits of reducing climate emissions when introducing regulations.
“These members of Congress have repeatedly voted to put polluter interests above the people they represent by undermining clean air and climate action policies that would benefit everyone. In fact, it seems like these Representatives care more about helping carbon, methane, and air pollution prosper than our own kids. It’s time for these congressmen to stand with their constituents, not with the polluters who are endangering the health of American families” said Matthew Gravatt, Sierra Club’s Associate Legislative Director.
Examples of the ads, running in a variety of sizes on each paper’s site in each district, appear here:
