WASHINGTON, DC - Sierra Club Independent Action unveiled its official voter guide for the 2018 midterms Monday, an important resource for millions of environmentally concerned voters who are mobilizing ahead of the November midterm elections.
The guide is designed to inform voters who are passionate about nature conservation, environmental protection, and tackling the climate crisis about which members and candidates for Congress will best reflect their values. The Sierra Club Voter Guide will be promoted to the Sierra Club’s over 3.5 million members and supporters, and advertised to environmentally-minded voters in critical congressional districts and states.
“The number one thing that folks concerned about the environment and the climate crisis can do to have an impact this year is simple: they can vote to send climate and clean energy champions to Washington” said Sierra Club Executive Director Michael Brune. “Congressional Republicans have refused to do anything to hold Donald Trump or this administration accountable for their disastrous policies, which is why we need an immediate change in leadership.”
SENATE:
Some of top candidates endorsed in the Sierra Club Voter Guide include those in tight races which could determine control of the Senate, including Candidates Beto O'Rourke in Texas, Phil Bredesen in Tennessee, Jacky Rosen in Nevada, and incumbent Senator Bill Nelson in Florida.
HOUSE:
In the House, some of the top environmental champions who could fundamentally shift control of Congress by ousting incumbent Republicans include Jason Crow (CO-6), Lisa Brown (WA-5), Harley Rouda (CA-48), Mike Levin (CA-49), Sean Casten (IL-6), and Dan McCready (NC-9)
“Every year, the Sierra Club leverages the power of our networks of volunteers and members in every state to help elect environmental candidates. This year is more critical than ever, because the scale of threats facing our climate and environment are matched only by the unwillingness of many in Washington to do anything about it” said Sierra Club National Political Director Ariel Hayes.
