WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The US Environmental Protection Agency has stayed open these first days of Trump's government shutdown, running on surplus funds. However, Acting Administrator Andrew Wheeler announced that the agency would run out of funds and need to shut down Friday, 12/28 at midnight.

In response, Sierra Club Executive Director Michael Brune released the following statement:

"The Trump administration has made it clear that it wants to make every day a holiday for toxic polluters, and now that the EPA is shutting its doors for lack of funding due to Trump’s shutdown, that wish is literally coming true. It's the EPA's responsibility to look out for the health and well-being of everyone living in the United States, so as we begin a new year it is particularly shameful for Trump to deny any accountability and put our nation at risk, all because of his desperate attempt to force the public to pay billions for an unnecessary, destructive wall that the public doesn’t want or expect will work.”
