Today, Senator Markey and Representative Ocasio-Cortez released their highly anticipated Green New Deal resolutions in the House and Senate. This bold plan seeks to tackle the climate crisis, create millions of good, high-wage jobs, secure clean air and water, and counteract systemic injustices.

The resolution, which already has more than 60 original resolution cosponsors, has been overwhelmingly positive across the board. Here’s just a snapshot of what people have been saying:

In Congress:

  • Senator Cory Booker: “Excited to join @AOC & @SenMarkey on a historic #GreenNewDeal resolution to address the peril of climate change and worsening inequality. Our history is a testimony to the achievement of what some think is impossible — we must take bold action now.”

  • Senator Kirsten Gillibrand: “A #GreenNewDeal is ambitious. It's bold. And I’m cosponsoring this resolution with @aoc and @senmarkey because it’s exactly the kind of action it will take to conquer the biggest threat of our lifetime.”
  • Senator Kamala Harris: “I’m proud to co-sponsor @AOC and @EdMarkey's Green New Deal. We must aggressively tackle climate change which poses an existential threat to our nation.”

  • Senator Jeff Merkley: “Hidden in the challenge of climate chaos is an opportunity to invest in our families, workers, & the frontline communities most impacted by fossil fuels. That’s why I’m supporting the #GreenNewDeal resolution and glad to partner with @SenatorMarkey @AOC.”

  • Senator Bernie Sanders: “Climate change is an existential disaster facing the entire world. We must transform our energy system away from fossil fuels to energy efficiency and sustainable energy. A Green New Deal can save the planet and create millions of new jobs.”

  • Senator Elizabeth Warren: “If we want to live in a world with clean air and water, we have to take real action to combat climate change now. I'm proud to join @RepAOC and @SenMarkey on a #GreenNewDeal resolution to fight for our planet and our kids’ futures.”

  • Governor Jay Inslee: “Excited that @SenMarkey, my former colleague, & @AOC are starting a conversation in Congress on #GreenNewDeal and thrilled this movement (and groups like @sunrisemvmt) has forced climate action onto the agenda.”

  • Rep. Raul Grijalva: “I signed onto the #GreenNewDeal. It puts the health & well-being of our communities first & is the framework we need to spur action in Congress and protect our planet. Time to reduce our fossil fuel use, create green jobs & protect our country for generations to come. Join us.”

  • Rep. Ayanna Pressley: “Thank you to my colleagues @RepAOC & @SenMarkey for their leadership and partnership on the #GreenNewDeal resolution. We must act with urgency.”

  • Rep. Adam Schiff: “The threat of climate change is urgent and existential. But it’s not too late to save our planet. We need to marshal all our resources and American ingenuity against the devastating effects of climate change. That’s why I’m proud to support the #GreenNewDeal.”

Across the movement:

  • 32BJ SEIU: “"This is a big day for the labor movement." @AOC We agree! Here's why we're supporting a #GreenNewDeal”

  • David Hogg: “.@AOC & @SenMarkey just dropped their #GreenNewDeal Resolution. It outlines exactly what a Green New Deal means:

    • jobs guarantee

    • promoting equity & justice

    • securing clean air & water for future generations.

  • Earthjustice: “BREAKING: @Earthjustice is proud to endorse the #GreenNewDeal resolution and applauds @SenMarkey, @AOC, and others who are demonstrating the leadership we need to create a just and healthy planet for everyone.”

  • Latino Victory: “Tackling climate change is a life-or-death necessity for our planet. That’s why we’re proud to support @AOC’s #GreenNewDeal. After all, communities of color have the most to lose by NOT transitioning to a 21st century, renewable economy.”

  • Paul Waldman, The Washington Post: "Instead, it’s a statement of intent, explaining the justification and goals of a massive infrastructure program to transition to a sustainable future. This is at once incredibly ambitious and politically practical, in that its advocates seem to have in their minds a long-term plan to get it accomplished."

  • Presente.org: “We have the #GreenNewDeal Resolution. Now, it’s up to us to make sure it stays strong and gets tons of support from our members of Congress. Click here to contact your Rep and ask them to support the Green New Deal resolution”

  • Sunrise Movement: “Climate change is a national emergency and we need a #GreenNewDeal to stop it. Today, @AOC & @SenMarkey released their Green New Deal Resolution, which lays out a 10 year plan to move America to 100% clean & renewable energy. This is what hope feels like.”

  • Union of Concerned Scientists: “BREAKING: UCS is happy to support the #GreenNewDeal. ‘We are excited and heartened to see this Green New Deal resolution introduced, laying out a bold, ambitious vision for how to address climate change in a principled, equitable and science-based manner.’ --@kenkimmell”

  • Winona LaDuke, Honor the Earth: "No time like the present to begin investing in the transition to an economy that will not stress us out. Because it will be more efficient, it will be much more local, and it will have a lot more jobs that are local."

  • 350.org: “BREAKING: @AOC & @SenMarkey are introducing #GreenNewDeal resolutions in Congress today. This is a huge chance to stand up to fossil fuel billionaires & kickstart a just transition to renewable energy—and all elected leaders should get on board.”
