ANNAPOLIS, MD -- Tomorrow, a coalition of climate and clean water advocates will hold a Telepresser to discuss new legislation designed to protect Maryland’s waters from dirty, dangerous fracked gas pipelines. The Maryland Pipeline and Water Protection Act (PAWPA) would require the state of Maryland to conduct a full Water Quality Certification review of any proposed fracked gas pipelines, as it is authorized to do under section 401 of the Clean Water Act. Previously, state authorities abdicated this responsibility when the Potomac Pipeline was proposed.

Bill sponsors Sen. Bobby Zirkin and Del. David Fraser-Hidalgo will join representatives from the Sierra Club, Chesapeake Climate Action Network, and Waterkeeper Chesapeake to give brief remarks and answer questions about the legislation.

What: A telepresser on the Maryland Pipeline and Water Protection Act.

When: Thursday, February 7 at 9:30 a.m.

Where: 877.876.9176 Conference ID: MARYLAND

Who: Speakers include:

  • Senator Bobby Zirkin

  • Delegate David Fraser-Hidalgo

  • Sierra Club MD's Josh Tulkin

  • CCAN's Brooke Harper

  • Waterkeepers Chesapeake's Katlyn Schmitt
