MIAMI, FL - Two nights of democratic debates organized by the DNC included less than 10 minutes each dedicated to discussing the climate crisis.

In Response, Sierra Club National Political Director Ariel Hayes Released the Following Statement:

“You couldn’t make a plate of pasta in the amount of time these two debates just devoted to the gravest existential crisis we face. The insufficient climate sections of these debates reaffirmed two key facts about the state of the race right now: First, the Democratic candidates are prepared and eager to have the deep, substantive discussion on tackling the climate crisis which we critically need. Second, the DNC’s strategy of relying on TV networks to make that happen without a dedicated time and space is simply not going to work.

“We are facing a crisis that is already having profound consequences for people across our country, and it’s time for the DNC to seize this opportunity to let the candidates debate the path forward.”
