“The climate crisis has been ignored by Donald Trump and these five Senators have done nothing to spur action to reduce the carbon pollution that exacerbates climate change,” said Liz Perera, Sierra Club Climate Policy Director. “The American people demand action on climate change and Senators Gardner, McSally, Ernst, Tillis and Romney and Donald Trump instead are sitting on their hands.”
Earlier this year, severe flooding in Iowa caused over $2 billion in damage, destroying agriculture and threatening the state’s future farming economy. Dangerous heat waves continue to jeopardize the health and well-being of vulnerable communities across Arizona and Colorado. Wildfires in Utah burned over 430,000 acres in 2018, destroying homes and local businesses. Hurricane Florence caused $17 billion in damage in North Carolina last year, and over 122,000 North Carolinians remain at risk of coastal flooding.
Nevertheless, President Trump and his polluter-packed cabinet continue their assault on environmental protections – taking action to roll back more than 80 rules that protect us from dangerous pollution. Their agenda props up the dirty energy industry, threatens our health, and slows our necessary transition to 100% clean energy sources.
