Washington, DC - Yesterday, Donald Trump continued to spread lies about the booming clean energy industry and wind power. In his speech, Trump claimed that he’s studied wind power “better than anybody,” yet he’s spread numerous lies about the energy source, including that it causes cancer. Trump continued by claiming that very little wind power generation manufacturing occurs in the United States, despite the fact that there are more than 114,000 wind jobs nationwide, including more than 24,000 manufacturing or supply chain jobs at over 500 factories. And finally, Trump said with a straight face that wind power, which produces no emissions on site, is spewing “tremendous fumes and gases.” Wind power is one of the cleanest sources of energy, emitting zero greenhouse gases, all while the fossil fuel industry that Trump has consistently backed and sought to prop-up is the main driver of climate change.

In response, Sierra Club Deputy Political Director Sarah Burton released the following statement:

“Donald Trump continues to tilt at windmills while attempting to greenhouse gaslight the entire country into believing he isn’t the worst president ever when it comes to the climate and environment. Wind power and the entire clean energy industry are among the fastest growing jobs producers over the past decade, yet Trump consistently attacks these jobs and mocks their contribution to the American economy. Our country needs a leader who will prioritize the clean energy jobs powering our economy and  tackle the climate crisis, not someone with their head in the sand letting this opportunity pass us by.”
