Washington, DC — Tras el rechazo a actuar por parte del líder de la minoría, Kevin McCarthy, la Cámara de Representantes aprobó hoy la resolución H.Res 72, la cual despoja a la representante Marjorie Taylor Greene (GA-14) de sus funciones en la Comisión de Educación y Trabajo y en la de Presupuestos, minimizando así cualquier impacto que ella pueda tener en la legislación.
Como respuesta, el presidente del Sierra Club, Ramón Cruz, y la directora del Capítulo de Georgia del Sierra Club, Jessica Morehead, emitieron el siguiente comunicado:
“A los congresistas se les ofrece la honorable oportunidad de liderar al país redactando y aprobando legislación que crea progreso, dejando un duradero legado mayor que el de cualquier individuo. Marjorie Taylor Greene ha dejado claro que ella considera al Congreso como un megáfono para diseminar su odio y promocionar peligrosas y mortales teorías conspiratorias. Al envolverse en sus propias creaciones, los congresistas republicanos solo han confirmado una vez más que el enemigo está en casa.
“Esta votación tiene que ser solo el primer paso para exigir responsabilidades a los que siembran las semillas del odio y promocionan mortales insurrecciones. Donald Trump tiene que ser condenado, y Ted Cruz, Josh Hawley y el resto de los congresistas republicanos cuyos actos fomentaron un ataque contra nuestro país tienen que ser expulsados de inmediato. Nunca podrá haber unidad, un lugar de trabajo seguro ni una democracia equitativa si se les permite a insurrectos y supremacisas blancos campar a sus anchas por los salones del Congreso”.

Congressional Republicans Continue to Wrap Themselves in their Own Creation
Washington, DC -- Today, after House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy refused to act, Congress passed H.Res. 72, stripping Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (GA-14) of her assignments to the Education and Labor Committee and the Budget Committee, minimizing any effect she could have on legislation.
In response, Sierra Club President Ramon Cruz and Sierra Club Georgia Chapter Director Jessica Morehead released the following statement:
“Members of Congress are presented with the honorable opportunity to lead our country by crafting and passing legislation that creates progress -- leaving a lasting legacy greater than any one individual. Marjorie Taylor Greene has made it clear she views Congress as a megaphone to peddle her hate and advance dangerous and deadly conspiracy theories. By wrapping themselves in their own creation, Congressional Republicans have only further confirmed that the call is coming from inside the house.
“Today’s vote must only be the first step in holding those that have sowed the seeds of hate and a fatal insurrection accountable. Donald Trump must be convicted, and Ted Cruz, Josh Hawley and those Congressional Republicans whose actions fueled an attack on our country must be immediately expelled. There can never be unity, a safe working place, nor an equitable democracy when insurrectionists and white supremacists are permitted to roam the halls of Congress freely.”
