Biden’s Historic Climate, Environmental Justice and Clean Energy Law Continues to Build a Livable Future

Washington, DC – One year ago today, the Inflation Reduction Act, President Biden’s historic investments in climate action, environmental justice, and clean energy was signed into law.

In celebration, Sierra Club Executive Director Ben Jealous released the following statement:

"President Biden said it best with his comment 'When I think of climate change, I think jobs.' Addressing the climate crisis is not merely a moral imperative demanding action, it is an opportunity to create millions of good, union jobs in communities across the country -- and that is exactly what the IRA is doing. Together, we will protect clean air and water, we will deploy clean energy across the country, we will create jobs that support families and communities, and we will ensure a livable future for generations now and those to come.

“This historic legislation is only the beginning of the work ahead. We must work to deliver every dollar made available, especially to the critical communities that have long been ignored. We must make certain that the jobs created are good, union jobs. And we must work to guarantee that no community – in particular the Gulf which has long been treated as a sacrifice zone – is left behind.”
