WASHINGTON, D.C. – In a bold move towards combating climate change on the international stage, the White House announced the establishment of a new task force dedicated to promoting trade in climate-friendly goods.

“We commend Climate adviser John Podesta for stressing the urgent need to align global economic systems with climate action,” said CeCe Grant, Industrial Transformation Campaign Director. “This establishment of this Task Force, in addition to the Department of Energy's $6 billion investment in projects targeting emissions-intensive sectors such as concrete, steel, and aluminum production, reflects the Biden Administration’s laser focus on driving decarbonization across key industries.”

“We look forward to working with the White House task force to forge a global trading framework that prioritizes pollution reduction and prevents the proliferation of environmentally harmful practices,” added Harry Manin, Deputy Legislative Director for Industrial Policy & Trade. Due to DOE’s investment in industrial demonstrations and the US’s environmental protections, the task force has a unique opportunity to combat climate change and make American industrial goods more attractive on the worldstage.”

By highlighting the significant contribution of global trade to the climate crisis, the Biden Administration is positioning the nation to address emissions from heavy industrial materials and their transport, while also tackling the issue of "carbon dumping" of goods manufactured under lax environmental regulations, often by competitors and even adversaries. This development is a climate victory and a geopolitical imperative.
