White House Rescinds Trump’s Illegal Government Funding Freeze

Washington, DC – Today, the White House Office of Management and Budget formally rescinded the memo ordering Donald Trump’s scheme to illegally halt all federal grants and loans across the government, impacting trillions of dollars and millions of people in every community across the country. The funding freeze was already temporarily postponed by a Federal judge yesterday after multiple lawsuits were filed.

Russ Vought, Donald Trump’s nominee to helm OMB and the architect of Project 2025, has not yet been confirmed by the Senate.

In response, Sierra Club Executive Director Ben Jealous released the following statement:

“Donald Trump may have failed in his illegal scheme to cut vital funding supporting American families, but the cruelty behind it remains. In barely one week on the job, he has shown the depths he will sink to to deliberately hurt families and communities. Project 2025 architect Russ Vought owes the country and the Senators set to vote on his nomination an explanation. He should not be confirmed until coming back before Congress to defend this cruel and shortsighted policy.

“Try as he may, Donald Trump cannot silence the American people. We will speak up and fight back whenever he tries to break his promise to help American families.”
