Washington, DC - Today, the D.C. Circuit Court sided with the Department of Energy after Sierra Club and Earthjustice challenged the criteria the agency used to issue an export permit for Alaska LNG.

In response, Sierra Club Alaska Chapter Director Andrea Feniger released the following statement:

“We are disappointed in the court’s decision and are evaluating our next steps. Even in light of this ruling, the fact remains that Alaska LNG is a boondoggle.

“We firmly believe that Alaska LNG would wreak havoc on the land, water, air, and wildlife in Alaska, unlock even more global climate chaos, and harm energy consumers across the country. Public officials have propped up the project for years with state dollars and still have nothing to show for it. The outlook for the project is so bad that the Trump administration is looking for foreign countries to pay for the project. Sierra Club will continue to fight Alaska LNG for as long as it takes to defeat it for good, on behalf of Alaskans and the American people.”
