Washington, DC - Today, the U.S. Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources advanced the nomination of former FERC commissioner James Danly to be Deputy Secretary of Energy for the Department of Energy. Danly has a concerning track record of siding with fossil fuel interests over community concerns.
In response, Sierra Club Director of Beyond Fossil Fuels Policy Mahyar Sorour released the following statement:
“Trump has made it clear that he will clear the way for dangerous fossil fuel projects despite the economic impacts on consumers, public health concerns, or environmental harms. During his time at FERC, James Danly demonstrated that he will fall in lock step with that plan. Mr. Danly rubber-stamped fossil fuel projects and fought court-directed efforts to ensure FERC considered the impacts of those projects on the public. The full Senate should reject the nomination of James Danly to Deputy Energy Secretary and work to protect people from corporate polluters.”
