Washington, DC – Today, the White House released Donald Trump’s FY2026 budget outline, which would make unprecedented cuts to essential services and drastically underfund critical programs and departments across government that the American people rely on. This comes as Congressional Republicans are advancing a plan to provide tax cuts and handouts to billionaires and corporate polluters.
In response, Sierra Club Legislative Director Melinda Pierce released the following statement:
“This budget outline would dangerously slash funding to protect our air and water, disinvest in the clean energy manufacturing boom that has powered our economic recovery, and raise costs for working families who are already struggling to get by amidst the chaos and uncertainty that this administration has created in just three short months. It would steal more than $1 billion from our National Park Service and outright end the home energy assistance program that low-income seniors and families rely on—as extreme weather and rising temperatures endanger and threaten millions more. If budgets are statements of values, this rough outline alone shows just how little Donald Trump values everything the American people rely on and hold dear: clean air and water; thriving public lands and wildlife; and access to reliable clean energy that will lower costs and save money.”
