LOS ANGELES — In response to ongoing ICE raids and protests in Los Angeles, Sierra Club chapter representatives released the following statements:
Kim Orbe, Sierra Club’s Angeles Chapter Acting Director, said:
“The aggressive ICE raids and attacks on our right to peacefully protest being orchestrated by the Trump administration are rooted in racism. They have targeted our communities of color. What we are seeing unfold before our eyes is not normal, and we will not stand by in silence while our families and neighborhoods are torn apart. Our communities are built by immigrants who contribute to the vibrant culture and resilience that makes Los Angeles great.
“When they come for one of us, they come for all of us. As a daughter of immigrants and acting chapter director for the Angeles chapter, I want to express that the Sierra Club stands with our immigrant communities, alongside whom we are privileged to work.”
Joz Sida, Sierra Club’s San Gorgonio Chapter Director, said:
“As a daughter of immigrants, proud of my roots, I am thankful for the opportunities their sacrifices have provided for me and my siblings. I have been deeply disturbed, disgusted and disappointed by the lack of empathy and humanity that the current administration shows in its disrespect for the Constitution of the United States of America.
“As the Chapter Director of the Sierra Club San Gorgonio Chapter which covers San Bernardino and Riverside Counties, we stand against the actions of ICE in Los Angeles and all cities across the country. We stand united with our communities. We stand against the separation of families. We stand against the violation of human rights and the violation of our Constitution. We stand for everyone having the opportunity to achieve the American Dream that was promised. When they come for one of us, they come for all of us. We must stand up and stand strong. They tried to bury us, but they did not know we were seeds.”
